Clapping for Cladding

The cladding saga continues - but more positively I hope.

It is now looking as though we may be able to get our cladding impasse moving.   We have been fortunate in finding a Lancashire firm who are well placed to manufacture the 55 individual aluminium panels which are needed to fill the 50+ square metres not now covered by re-used cladding panels from the earlier extension.  The pictures below help to explain.  Sixteen of our existing panels are in position or nearly so.   Newly made panels of identical appearance will fill the black gaps.

The picture shows six of the sixteen, in this case the north east corner of the extension.

For various reasons the fixing method and the cross sectional design of the new panels will differ from the originals making for easier application.  However, this has meant a re-think and re-drawing the layouts for which huge appreciation to architect Stuart Green who is liaising with the manufacturers directly in cladding-speak.

Other possible cladding suppliers have closed because of the CV situation so are unable to supply in any case.

Our suppliers are battling on as they do essential metalwork for the food and firefighting sectors.  Our little job fits in nicely with their schedule and they are able to deliver to Settle as a huge bonus.  The plan is to make two sets of panels - the large ones first followed by the twiddly bits around windows and doors later.  If all goes well we could have the large panels on or around 17th April.

The existing panels look a bit shabby but they come clean with washing-up liquid and water!

These views from the top of the tower's tank show the extent of the new building compared with the existing extension (the 'white' roof in the foreground).  Two of the parapet panels await fixing.
