Bekonscot Fire Brigade and Settle Station

Nothing else to do on Terminals 2 and 3 yet so we are embarked on a massive clear-out and tidy-up.  Came upon this delightful photograph of grandsons James (top, between sets of teeth) and Ben at the wonderful Bekonscot model village in Beaconsfield.  James is now over six feet tall, measures on the family measuring-stick in the old water tower.

Then this morning this picture appeared on social media.  It says a lot about Settle station:

IT Triumph

The real reason for recent lack of posts is that we have had I.T. problems.  My iPhone simply would not work and furthermore it did not want to have anything to do with my Apple Mac computer.  I tried Apple's helpline but found myself in a text message dialogue with a computer which insisted on asking me techy questions I did not understand.   They I tried our usual very good helpline Nexus but they could not deal with the problem online via their Team Viewer.

Inspiration then struck.  Many months ago a young man in Settle called Felix Packard offered his computer know-how to Settle people.   Felix is the son of one of Lorna's contemporaries at Nab Wood Middle School in Bingley.  They now live in Settle, via Australia.

Felix's computer business has taken off incredibly, so much so his website opens up with a plea for no more business please!   Too busy.  Here's Felix:

And this is his website

What a find!  Everything fixed.  Thank you Felix soooooo much.

Three Happy Chappies

The magnificent Staycation Express goes over the roof of England three times a day giving joy to many, not least these three - drivers Gordon and Chris and train guard Mike seen here in the Settle sunshine.

What a job eh?

Super picture by Phil Metcalfe of the train emerging southwards from the Ribblehead viaduct into a patch of sunshine on a stormy day.

A Memory and Lady Diana Spencer

Here is today's Staycation Express heading south on its first run of the day - hauled by a Class 20 diesel shunter!  Not to worry as it had help from the massively powerful class 47 "Lady Diana Spencer" at the other end.

ONE OF THE GOOD THINGS ABOUT FACEBOOK IS THAT IT KEEPS SELECTING MEMORIES TO SHOW YOU ONCE MORE.  This one is from 3rd May 2011 which seems like a lifetime ago:

The transformation of that tank's appearance was absolutely spectacular and kept me going for six months or so.

Uncanny Likeness and The Railway Comes Back to Life

The appearance of the Fat Controller on the station platform has caused much amusement - and so too has this picture of Settle station supervisor Paul Brown alongside.  The similarity is quite uncanny don't you think?

Meanwhile the line is coming back to life with people - mainly on the non-Northern trains sadly.  Here is a very lucky picture of the Staycation Express approaching Appleby as steamer British India Line departs:

Could have been the 1960s, not the 2020s.

And a couple of local Dales images:

Amazing Image

Jim Robinson is clearly an expert with PhotoShop or similar image enhancement.

He has very kindly sent me this amazing image.  Taken a while ago (the big tree to the right was felled ages ago now) by Jim who has doctored it immensely to superb effect:

The image may be encroached by the gubbins on the right so I have repeated it further down where it should be free of interference:

Interestingly, the coal truck and the Model T are of similar age (1914).   The tower is a good deal older  (1876).
